- How long is each CF segment?
- At least 12 weeks, and long enough to accrue roughly 420 hours. At full time (35 hours per week) that is exactly 12 weeks; part-time fellows have proportionally longer segments.
- Do supervisor supervision hours reset each segment?
- Yes. Each mentor owes a fresh 6 hours of direct care observation and 6 hours of indirect mentorship in every segment. Hours from a generous first segment do not cover a thin second one.
- When does my supervisor have to rate my skills?
- At the close of each of the three segments. Every skill on the Clinical Fellowship Skills Inventory must be observed and evaluated within each segment individually.
Why segments matter more than the total
ASHA divides the fellowship into 3 segments, each at least 12 weeks long and each representing one third of the total — 420 hours apiece. Your supervisor owes a fresh 6 hours of direct care observation and 6 hours of indirect mentorship in every segment. Hours from a generous first segment do not cover a thin second one.
At the close of each segment, the Clinical Fellowship Skills Inventory has to be completed — every skill on the inventory must have been observed and evaluated within that segment. This is the deadline most spreadsheets never surface, because a spreadsheet that sums hours has no concept of a segment boundary.
